Every year, tonnes of edible food and equipment are left in halls by students moving out and are simply thrown away.

Rawkus are a student group formed of volunteers who are working with the SU, Warwick Accommodation and Warwick Volunteers to tackle these issues and reduce waste on campus. At the end of each term, Rawkus volunteers combine to remove the leftover food (such as oils, vegetables, pasta, rice, cereals) and unwanted goods from Halls of Residence and provide drop-off points for those living off-campus. The food and goods collected are then distributed to local charities in Coventry and Leamington, including food banks.

The collections take place in September, December, March and June. The operation has been running since 2013, and has grown to nearly 50-times its original size.

Coventry Cyrenians were very grateful to receive the donation yet again to hand out food bags to clients. They also donated bric-a-brac that went to Windsors & Rrefreshed, plus household items that went direct to our hostel accommodation.
