LONG SERVICE VOLUNTEER AWARDS

On 30th November, Cyrenians held an awards ceremony for our Long Service Volunteers.  Mike Fowler (Chief Executive) presented them with the Tracy Kite Award.  This recent time-honoured award is in memory of the late Tracy Kite, a remarkable member of staff who worked for the Cyrenians for over 10 years and was passionate about supporting our volunteers.

Four volunteers were presented with an engraved plaque, certificate and voucher.

Pip Geraghty

Pip came to volunteer for the Cyrenians when he was a client of their floating support service in 2013/14. Over the years he has volunteered mainly as a van driver, collecting donated items and delivering items to service users. Pip helped set up our charity shop and with posting and collecting donation bags for the shop.  He has also undertaken house and garden clearances.

Pip is always in a positive and upbeat manner and leaves a lasting impression on the people he meets whilst undertaking his duties. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him and he presents a great example to other volunteers.  He is well liked by staff service users and customers alike. He wanted to give something back to Cyrenians as a thank you and 3 years later he is still volunteering regularly.s keen and happy to help. He represents our organisation to donors and service users.

Selim Tekaya

Selim, who is a talented artist, has made a huge contribution since he first started volunteering for Cyrenians back in July 2013.  The Stratford furniture shop generated over £21,000 of income during the 2 ½ years that the shop was operating.

Selim & Dave

Expenditure on the unit in the corresponding period was just under £7,000 resulting in a net contribution to the organisation in the region of £14,000.  It should also be remembered that a by- product of this operation was to establish a presence in Stratford Town Centre that is still resulting in donations from local residents to this day.  Selim has now transferred to our Torrington Avenue premises in Coventry where we hope he will eventually achieve similar results.
