Coventry University students braved the cold and slept rough to raise funds for the homeless.

Students who make up the International Disaster Concern (IDC) Society, which raises awareness for disasters across the world, chose to support Coventry Cyrenians.

The charity offers support programmes for vulnerable adults across the city and Warwickshire to help them rebuild their lives.

In previous years, the society has raised money for search and rescue teams in developing countries.

“This time we wanted to give something back to the community, as I believe the homeless issue hits students quite hard when they move here,” said Jennifer Newton, IDC Socety president.

“I know personally I have never seen anything like this before until moving here.”

The students managed to raise more than £900 for Coventry Cyrenians by sleeping rough for one night on University Square.

The event was a success – although very cold – and it is hoped the total will hit the £1,000 mark.
